What Should You Do If Your Porsche’s Engine Is Misfiring?

Misfiring occurs when one or more cylinders don’t ignite correctly. You’ll feel a drop in power, and in severe cases, your car might shudder.

The engine will briefly lose power and your engine tone will sound uneven. Unfortunately, even a Porsche can experience an engine misfiring due to late servicing or maintenance. As your Porsche dealer, we’d like you to know more about some causes of this problem.

Air-Fuel Problems

Effective combustion requires fuel and air, and these two substances must mix in a precise ratio. Fuel is delivered into the intake manifold by the fuel injectors, and the air is drawn into the manifold from the outside via the car air filter. In the manifold, fuel and air must combine in a 14:1 ratio of air to fuel. The mixture is then drawn into the cylinders, compressed, and ignited at a precise moment.

A clogged air filter can cause misfiring, as it blocks the flow of air into the engine. If your engine has insufficient air, it will become fuel rich. Spark plugs can’t easily ignite in a fuel-rich atmosphere, and one or more cylinders can misfire. Low fuel pressure can also cause a misfire, as your engine then receives less fuel than it needs. We’ll examine your engine, pinpoint the cause of the problem, and then repair it.

Sensor Problems

Your car has a computer that controls all of its systems. This makes driving easier and more enjoyable. The computer is connected to numerous sensors in your car that monitor each of its systems. The sensors send information to your computer continuously, and the computer uses this information to make decisions.

As we’ve seen, your engine requires air for combustion. Oxygen sensors at the entrance to the catalytic converter and in the exhaust monitor the amount of air that leaves your car. This information is crucial for determining the amount of air your engine needs for the air-fuel mixture. If one of these sensors malfunctions, your engine won’t receive enough air, and misfiring can occur. We can easily check and replace damaged sensors.

Spark Plug Problems

The spark plugs need electricity to generate the necessary spark, They also depend on their attached ignition coil to supply the additional power needed to ignite the air-fuel mixture. Spark plugs and ignition coils can become worn or damaged, and this can lead to a misfire.

A spark plug is connected to each cylinder, and each spark plug is supported by an ignition coil. Our technicians can test the plug and coils and replace any damaged or failing ones.

Ignition problems and problems with the emissions control system can also cause misfiring. If you’re experiencing this problem, call us right away at Porsche Beachwood. Our Porsche-trained technicians will identify and repair the problem for you in no time.
