How Often Should You Check Your Porsche’s Car Emissions?
To protect the environment, states like Ohio have strict rules about how much pollution cars on the road are allowed to release.

If your vehicle is over the allowed threshold, you may need to have it repaired to stay compliant. Before your next car emissions test, ask our team at Porsche Beachwood for some emission test FAQs.
How Often Should You Check Your Porsche’s Car Emissions?
In Ohio, emission tests must be completed every two years. Emission test rules make it easy to remember when you should have your vehicle tested. If your Porsche model is from an even-number year, then you will need to complete your emission test during even-number years in the future. Models from odd-number years will be tested in odd-number years.
When you complete your emission test in Ohio, you will receive an E-Check compliance certificate. This certificate will last for 365 days and should remain valid through your vehicle’s registration expiration date. To keep your certificate up to date, you may want to complete your emission test early. You can complete your emission test up to one year early.
Which Vehicles Should Be Tested?
Most gasoline and diesel vehicles in Ohio that have a gross vehicle weight rating of 10,000 lbs or less will need to complete regular emission tests. Vehicles that have been made within the last 25 years of the testing year and vehicles that are registered in an E-Check county will also need to be tested. Hybrid vehicles are subject to testing.
The only vehicles exempt from emission tests are new cars. Your brand-new Porsche will be exempt from testing for four years.
Can Your Porsche Dealership Check Your Emissions?
Some dealerships may be certified testing locations in Ohio. To see if your dealership can check your Porsche emissions, you can call Porsche Beachwood or check for testing locations online. Otherwise, you can visit a self-serve kiosk or another testing location to check your emissions.
How Can You Prepare For the Emission Test?
Before your test, you must ensure all components of your vehicle are functioning, particularly your vehicle’s catalytic converter. You may want to take your Porsche to the dealership for routine service before your emission test to ensure your car is performing efficiently. Your fuel tank should not be overfilled before the test, since this can throw off the emission test results.
Frequent emission tests are the best way to ensure your carbon footprint is small. The vast majority of consumer vehicles under 10,000 lbs must be tested every two years to maintain compliance with state regulations. Contact Porsche Beachwood to find out more.
